The photographer of Photo Scamto, Olwethu Maplanka creates a new wave by having his first personal studio in his garage.

Maplanka is a graduate with qualications in Business Management and Economics, and Economics respectively. His qualifications are Bachelor of Business Management and Economics (2016-2018) and have Honours in Economics(2019) and have obtained them in Fort Hare University. Maplanka's love for photography came in his varsity years when he was a rapper and thought of buying a camera to make music videos but found himself doing more snaps than flexing on a camera screen. "Haha the name came from a very creative friend of mine, Khulasande Mfengu, and it means Photo Language/Talking as Scamto is slang for talking. Also Photo is in English and Scamto is in Xhosa. So all in all we try to speak through visual, set a mood and give the viewer something to talk about, whether comment, critique, or question." he said. As everyone is built on inspiration, Maplanka's very own is Adrian McDonald, "Someone who's work I'm inspired by is Adrian McDonald (@lexonart). His fusion of poerty with imagery is amazing". He aspire to be the best photographer to live in his time only words of wisdom came from this young man, "The best advice I ever got is to START. It does not matter what you want to do just start. Once you start, everything you thought will be obstacles will start to manifest in your conversations and from there solutions and ideas pop up. Whatever you think about becomes your reality, think good thoughts. Lastly, NEVER spend on yourself with business money, buy assets which will make you great at what you do. And owh, YouTube is King haha!!!". The sky isn't the limit for Maplanka as he always shoots for the galaxies. The guy turned his home garage to a photoshoot studio and hopes for more in the future.
