The Umtata borne rapper , Yanga Ntshakaza who is famously known as Yanga Chief is flying the Umtata and Queenstown's flag up high as he spent most of his childhood life in Queenstown . Utatakho's rapper had his grand breakthrough in 2015 when he released his '2015 Freestyle' and social media took his raps by storm . He then met a former IVY LEAGUE member and one of the greatest Hip Hop artists on our time , AKA who had Yanga featured on Run Jozi which became the country's Hip Hop anthem in its time . AKA grew to be Yanga's mentor as he featured him on most of his songs including Dreamworks which certified Diamond , Jika which recently won on the Video Of The Year category on #SAMA26 ceremony and AKA's latest single , Monuments which its visuals dropped one day ago on YouTube .
Yanga Chief had it hard to go mainstream individually even though he appeared on most of the S.A Hip Hop hits . Pushing Xhosa rap to the mainstream media has to be the hardest things Yanga came across at a point that he wanted to give up on music . His fans begged him to not give up . He listened and gave it a last push with Utatakho single and it became the song of the year last year . He later released his debut album Becoming A Pop Star which he launched here in Queenstown with the likes of Scoop Makhathini and Kwesta . On his tweet about his victory from the song of the year category , he gave a biggest shout-out to Queenstown .
A former Queen's College scholar had 2019 as a year that went from worst to best . It was a moment of truth for Queenstown , Umtata , the whole Eastern Cape and Yanga Chief's fans when they witnessed magic happening . From wanting to quit music to making a hit single and album the same year you wanted to quit . On his #SAMA26 award winning speech he gave a biggest shout-out to Queenstown and dedicated the album to his late dad .
